OTTAWA – Ottawa Carleton District School Board trustee Donna Blackburn said she has come up with a possible solution to end the funding battle for a rebuild at a Westboro school.
Blackburn has put forth an idea to sell off Ottawa’s Technical High School and then use the funds to renovate schools on the Board’s top priority list.
Another trustee supports Blackburn, saying the solution would benefit the city.
Blackburn is under fire for voting in favour of a $15-million rebuild of the central Ottawa school, rather than a cheaper alternative. This has Coun. Jan Harder and MPP Lisa McLeod furious they don’t understand why Blackburn would risk losing money for the ever growing suburbs in place for a downtown school. Harder told 1310News, Blackburn is supporting the wrong cause.
“With no report, no public consultation, no due diligence on finances or a look at the impact”.
Meanwhile, MPP Lisa McLeod and Barrhaven Coun. Jan Harder have asked Blackburn to change her vote or step down but Blackburn is holding her ground.
Blackburn is hoping the board and other trustees will approve the idea.
It will go before the board’s business committee on Apr. 30, then before the Carleton District School Board at a later date.
