New Surrey RCMP boss named

SURREY (NEWS1130) – One of the lead RCMP officers in the investigation of serial murderer Robert Pickton is taking over as officer in charge of the RCMP’s largest detachment in Canada.
Superintendent Bill Fordy has been named commander of the Surrey detachment. He takes over for retiring Asstistant Commissioner Fraser MacRae.
Fordy began his career as a constable in the 661 member Surrey detachment in 1989 and returned to the detachment in 2011 as the officer in charge of investigative services.
Between those years, he also worked in the Mounties’ polygraph section and helped create an RCMP E-Division interview team responsible for investigating serious cases ranging from numerous high profile murders to sexual offences and police corruption.
Fordy gained wide recognition for his lengthy interrogation of Robert Pickton after the farmer’s arrest in 2002.
Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts says Fordy brings a wealth of experience to the role of police chief and she looks forward to working with him to enhance public safety initiatives and bring creative solutions to policing in Surrey
Fordy will assume his new role on June 4.
