Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge to be completed by August 2013

Construction will continue within the next two weeks on the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge.

Ottawa City Councillor Steve Desroches has announced the city’s bonding company has selected a new prime contractor for the project.

“I’m confident that Horseshoe Hill Construction Incorporated, the main contractor will deliver the full completion of the contract and finish the bridge to the highest standards,” says Desroches.

The bridge is 60 per cent complete and is scheduled to be finished on August 31, 2013.

The bridge, which will span the Rideau River, was slated to be completed late this year.

Desroches says this decision was made by the City’s bonding company and not by the city.

“We have done everything right in implementing this contract,” says Desroches. “We have safe guards in place to protect the tax payers and to assure that the project is completed in a timely fashion and delivers the best product for the citizens of Ottawa.”

Construction was put on hold in March when ConCreate U-S-L, the original contractors, went into receivership after complaints from some businesses who said ConCreate owed them money.
