Canadian Toy Testing Council releases top toys for 2013

OTTAWA, Ont. – The Canadian Toy Testing Council released its 2013 Toy Report on Tuesday morning.

The 2013 edition is the result of eight to 12 weeks of testing, during which 200 families tested toys to pick this year’s hottest, kid-approved gifts.

The report includes a list of “best bets”, to eliminate the guess work from your shopping as well as the children’s choice winners.

Seven-year-old Zachary was one of many toy-testers for the council. He says he played with lots of fun games, but says the Playmobil’s Future Planet: E-Rangers’ Headquarters toy was by far his favourite.

“I just like that … it has so much science in it because I really like science,” says Zachary. “If you bring it out in the sun the solar panel reflects and the fan starts moving.”

Fellow toy expert, eight-year-old Dillon agrees. “I kind of want it for Christmas,” he says.

Yago Pool: The Strategic Finger Billiard, a DIY Lip Balm by Kiss Naturals and a kitchen and table set by Fisher Price also topped the list.

The CTTC also held its annual “Toymendous” toy sale at Algonquin College Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
