A 73-year-old man is facing several charges after Ottawa police searched a home in the south end that turned up a large number of electronic devices.
According to officials, on June 4, they went to the house where they arrested and charged Wilbert Reid Telfer. He is facing offences related to child sexual abuse and exploitation materials.
In the search, police said they found a “significant number of electronic devices” at the scene.
The accused appeared in court earlier this month.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ottawa police.
Dog who can find digital devices
This is the first year Ottawa police are using a canine officer for her unique ability to sniff out digital devices.
Piper, a two-year-old black Labrador, joined in December 2025 and has since been involved in a number of investigations.
She has “mastered” detecting the scent of electronic devices like hard drives, USB sticks, SD cards and AirTags.
She is the first of her kind in OPS, but not the first in Canada. That honour goes to Harley, a yellow lab who joined Peel Regional Police in 2023.
