Beavertails going to Washington for inauguration

Washington will have a little taste of Canada for U.S. President Barack Obama’s second inauguration.

This will be the second time Beavertails has been in the American capital; the company attended his first inauguration in 2009.

“It’s a real honour to be asked to represent Canada in Washington at this party,” Grant Hooker, founder and chairman of Beavertails, told 1310News.

Shortly after their first trip to Washington, Beavertails first served Obama here in Ottawa when he made an impromptu stop at the Byward Market icon.  Hooker says he never expected Obama would stop by his business that day.

“If (Obama) comes in his limousine down Pennsylvania Avenue…we fully expect him to stop the car. He and Michelle will then get out, and he will want to introduce her to our world-famous pastry,” Hooker said.

Beavertails will be served from Hooker’s “Obamamobile” at the Canadian embassy in Washington.

The menu will include “Obamatails” — a classic cinnamon and sugar Beavertail topped with a large whipped cream letter ‘O,’ traced with chocolate and maple sauce.
