OTTAWA, Ont. – The 61st annual Canadian Tulip Festival kicks off in the capital Friday!
Many areas such as the ByWard Market, Little Italy and Chinatown will host events over the next three weeks.
The festival gets underway at 11:30 a.m. when a parade of vintage vehicles leaves the Dows Lake Pavilion, travels along Queen Elizabeth Driveway, and ends at Ottawa City Hall — also known as Tulip Plaza — for opening ceremonies.
The Canadian Tulip Festival was first held in 1953 and has grown to become the largest tulip festival in the world, allowing more than 500,000 visitors to gaze at 1-million tulips which bloom in the National Capital every year. The tulip is Ottawa’s official flower.
The festival runs from May 3 until May 20.
