OTTAWA, Ont. – More than 100 people showed up to a memorial for Michael Wassill, 20, held at Beechwood Cemetery Wednesday evening.
Michael died of his injuries eight days after his throat was slashed at his family home in Orleans on May 15, 2013. His family says he stepped in to protect a girl who was staying with his family.
His funeral was held Thursday afternoon.
The family is asking for donations to be made to shelters for abused women in Michael’s honour. They are also asking people to become organ donors.
Meantime, Carson Morin, 20, has been formally charged with second-degree murder in the death of Michael Wassill. Morin’s attempted murder charged was upgraded during a court appearance Tuesday.
