Environment Canada launches interactive lightning map

Environment Canada has launched a new online tool which tracks lightning.
The interactive map is updated every 10 minutes to track lightning and display high risk lightning areas.
Peter Kimbell is a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada.
He tells 1310News that the public can use the tool to stay safe during storms.
“If you see yourself on this map within a red circle, it means you’re at risk of being struck by lightning if you’re outdoors,” says Kimbell.
Environment Canada’s motto if “When thunder roars, go indoors.”
Kimbell says you should head into a building with plumbing and wiring or an all metal vehicle and stay there for 30 minutes following the last rumble of thunder.
