Selling booze in corner stores would decrease prices, boost sales: report

A new study suggests selling alcohol in Ontario corner stores would not only be convenient for consumers, it would drive down prices and boost sales by nine per cent.

That’s the bottom line of a study by a University of Waterloo professor for the Ontario Convenience Store Association.

The study concludes that a blended alcohol retail system in Ontario, similar to one in BC, would be good for all concerned.

A recent auditor general report finds the price of alcohol is too high and impacts revenues.

Despite that, the LCBO announced record sales of $1.7-billion just last week.
