Federal Conservatives continue to lose support

OTTAWA – The latest numbers from Abacus Data show the federal Conservatives are losing support.
Half of the people who responded to the survey say they somewhat or strongly disagree with how the Conservatives are running the country. Thirty-one per cent of respondents said they approve or strongly approve.
The bigger concern is the Conservative core. David Coletto of Abacus Data tells 1310News that 20 per cent of those who voted for them in the last election are looking elsewhere.
“(If) they lose that 20 per cent, they likely lose their majority,” Coletto said.
Coletto feels a cabinet shuffle may give the party a chance to press the reset button.
“I think the Tories have to find a way now to bring in some policies, bring in a direction that really appeals to that group again,” Coletto said. “I think they’ve lost a lot of that support, particularly in suburban regions around Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver.”
Coletto isn’t surprised by the decline in Conservative support, considering the Senate scandal and weak economy.
