Lawmaker: “Child’s Pose” does not deserve to be considered for an Oscar due to bad language

BUCHAREST, Romania – Romania may have nominated the acclaimed “Child’s Pose” for best foreign language film at next year’s Oscars, but not everyone in the country is rooting for it.
Lawmaker Victor Cristea, a member of Parliament’s education committee, criticized the nomination in a parliamentary debate Tuesday, arguing that bad language in the movie puts Romania in a bad light.
Parada Films, which produced the movie, defended “Child’s Pose” as a realistic and accurate portrayal of contemporary life.
The drama tells the story of a mother who tries to use her social position to save her son from prison and features bleak scenes of bribery and corruption.
Directed by Calin Peter Netzer, it won the Golden Bear for best picture at the Berlin film festival in February.
