Sens 50/50 raffle goes high-tech

OTTAWA – The 50/50 charity raffle at Ottawa Senators games will be going high-tech this fall.

On Wednesday, the Ottawa Senators Foundation announced it is taking part in a pilot program, that will see volunteers using hand-held tablets to sell the tickets.

Foundation President Danielle Robinson told 1310News the change will modernize the raffle, making it more efficient and more fun for fans.

“The real great thing about this is our fans will know at the very moment of their purchase how much the jackpot is at,” said Robinson. “Right now, this is not possible … we have to account for all of that during the third period and announce that jackpot then.”

Robinson said customers will get one paper ticket, rather than a whole strip.

With increased hype about the jackpot, Robinson expects the raffle to bring in double to triple the revenue for the community.
