Angelina Jolie,William Hague praise Bosnia for including rape prevention in military training

By The Associated Press

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina – British Foreign Secretary William Hague and Hollywood star Angelina Jolie say Bosnia’s decision to include prevention of sexual violence in military training is “groundbreaking” and should become standard for any armed forces serving in U.N. peacekeeping missions.

They addressed a conference on sexual violence in conflict organized in Sarajevo on Friday by Bosnia’s Defence Ministry.

Jolie said the initiative is “redefining soldiering in the 21st century.”

Hague promised his country will support a planned training centre in Sarajevo for future military and police peacekeepers from the region.

He added that rape is a cheap and devastatingly effective way to terrorize and displace a population and is being used currently in Syria, the Central African Republic and South Sudan.
