Sens’ GM Bryan Murray diagnosed with cancer

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Senators have announced that longtime General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Bryan Murray has been recently diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer.
The team announced Murray’s diagnosis in a written statement, and that Murray’s treatment schedule may require him to be away from the Senators office periodically.
There had been whispers about Murray’s health leading up to the announcement.
“There was something very obviously wrong at the draft in Philadelphia,” said Sportsnet’s John Shannon. “Someone had given me a hint last week that Bryan was having some health issues, and had lost 20-25 pounds.”
While Murray undergoes treatment for his cancer and needs to take time away from the front office, Senators assistant general managers Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee will take the reins.
“I don’t think there’s any question that Bryan has created a very good succession plan,” Shannon told 1310News.
“Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee…are very capable of running the organization,” he said.
Well wishes for Murray and a speedy recovery have been pouring in from all over — from Ottawa’s mayor, from other hockey teams and from fans.
