Man pulled from SUV in Rideau Canal

OTTAWA — A 61-year-old man was sent to hospital after an SUV struck a light post and crashed into the Rideau Canal Wednesday night.

It happened on Colonel By Drive near the Bank Street Bridge around 11:15 p.m.

Emergency crews could hear the man struggling inside the vehicle when they arrived on scene.

He was pulled out of the vehicle through the window and taken to shore.

The man was the only person in the vehicle, and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

He was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample.
