Drowning victim remembered as hero

OTTAWA — A man who jumped in the Ottawa River near the Champlain Bridge to save a friend’s 12-year-old son on Saturday drowned, and is being remembered as a hero.
Michael Lumahang, 39, knew how to swim, but his mother said he was not an expert.
A 24-year-old man, who was believed to be a passerby, pulled the boy to safety.
The child was treated for mild hypothermia.
Crews found Lumahang’s body around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, 300 feet from the shore near Bate Island.
