Mayor Watson pledges additional $2 million for affordable housing programs

OTTAWA – Mayor Jim Watson has made the first policy pitch of his election campaign.
Watson announced Sunday that he will inject another $2 million into affordable housing programs if he is re-elected as mayor on October 27.
Watson pledged to boost funding for the city’s housing and homelessness program from $14 million to $16 million annually.
“We still don’t have enough built construction for affordable housing and we’re working on improving that with this new announcement,” Watson told 1310News. “We’ll be able to build more affordable homes for people — either families, or seniors or individuals — who just can’t afford the high rent we have in the city.”
The funding would be used to pay for rent supplements and housing allowances, as well as building repairs.
