OTTAWA – The cancellation of free yoga classes at the University of Ottawa has prompted a wave of online criticism.
The Student Federation of the University of Ottawa pulled the plug on the classes, saying they weren’t sensitive enough to yoga’s cultural roots.
Social media comments call the move ‘political correctness run amok.’
The instructor offered to compromise and re-name her yoga class, “mindful stretching,” but the student federation said no, as a suitable French translation could not be found.
The classes had been offered since 2008.
