“Don’t retaliate” when faced with road rage: OPP

OTTAWA — Whether it’s a hand gesture through the window or yelling at someone when you’re stopped at a red light, giving into road rage is a bad idea.
That’s the message from the OPP.
Provincial Constable Sandra Barr tells 1310 NEWS we need to stop taking it personally when another driver makes a mistake — and we need to be polite and courteous on the road, even if we feel like we’ve been wronged.
“Reacting to that person’s anger or their aggression,” says Barr, “is it worth getting back at them and risking your own life?”
If you feel the other driver is a safety risk, Constable Barr says you should call police.
She says that very thing happened Monday, when a driver called police to report another driver on the 401 who was displaying signs of road rage.
When police pulled the angry driver over, they found her with small children in her car. She was issued a warning.
Barr says if at any point you feel like another driver is following you, don’t drive home. Head to the nearest police station, instead.
