OTTAWA — A man who fell through the ice while trying to cross the Rideau River near North River Road got himself out — and then walked away.
911 calls came in at around 2:20 Tuesday afternoon, and water rescue crews headed to the scene.
Before they arrived, they got word that the man had “self-rescued,” and was walking toward North River Road.
He was gone when emergency crews arrived.
The area was searched, and crews were able to find the spot where the man had gone through the ice — but determined he’d left the area using a pathway.
No injuries are reported.
