Victim identified in early Saturday morning murder in west end

OTTAWA — The victim of Saturday morning’s homicide in the city’s west end has been identified as Jacob Thompson, 40, of Ottawa.

Officers responded to a shooting on Elmira Drive around 2 a.m.

Paramedics said they treated a man for two gunshot wounds.

He was later pronounced dead in hospital.

No one is in custody. Police could not say whether the shooting was targeted.

This is the city’s 46th shooting and 12th murder of the year.
