Two dead in separate weekend shootings

OTTAWA- A man killed in the Carlington neighbourhood over the weekend has been identified.
According to the Citizen, police were called to The Suya Spot Restaurant at 1319 Shillington Ave. around 6:10 a.m. Sunday.
Abdi Jama, 26, was rushed to the Trauma Centre in critical condition, where he later died. Police believe the shooting is gang-related and say Jama is known to them.
Jama was originally dropped off at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, which doesn’t have an ER, so paramedics transferred him to the Trauma Centre at the Civic Hospital.
The shooting comes a day after a man was killed in the west end.
Police were called to a home on Elmira Drive around 2 a.m. Saturday where Jacob Thompson, 40, has been killed in an unrelated shooting.
Their deaths mark the city’s 12th and 13th murders of 2016. The shootings are the 46th and 47th of the year.
