Toddler suffers critical burns after crib catches fire

OTTAWA – A small child is in critical condition after a crib caught fire in Kanata overnight.
Emergency crews were called to 84 Gowrie Drive shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday, after a 911 call reporting a fire on the second floor of the two-storey home.
When crews arrived, a 19-month-old was immediately treated for serious burns to their hands and face and stabilized on scene before being taken to hospital with their mother.
The child remains in critical condition.

A 35-year-old man was also taken to hospital to be treated for non-critical smoke inhalation.
The fire was under control by 2:40 a.m. and the family has been left homeless. Damage is pegged around $100,000.
The Red Cross and the Salvation Army have been called in to assist.
The Fire Marshal is investigating.
