West Carleton Secondary evacuated due to suspected gas leak

OTTAWA — A rural high school has been closed for the day after a suspected gas leak, early this morning.

Firefighters were called to West Carleton Secondary School around 7 a.m., when staff noticed an unusual odour in the building. Ottawa Fire tells 1310 NEWS, an excess of snow may have caused a break in a gas line on the outside of the school.

Students have been taken to Earl of March Secondary School in Kanata, where they are being supervised.

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board says parents can pick their children up at Earl of March, or school buses will take them home at 2:15 p.m. as usual.
