Uber could have some local competition with a new app

OTTAWA — A city employee could give Uber a run for its money.

According to Postmedia, Neville Hewage has submitted an application for his oRide app to the city.

Unlike Uber, riders would have to pay a minimum $8 fare, but there won’t be any price increases at peak times and Hewage said it will actually be cheaper than Uber if you’re travelling a longer distance.

As well, drivers only have to pay 15 per cent to the company, unlike Uber’s 25 per cent fee.

While the city is still reviewing the application, Hewage is already in talks with an insurance company to cover drivers.
