OTTAWA — As the mayor and the premier meet up for a business delegation next week, Jim Watson plans to also put drugs on the table.
The mayor says he plans to ask the premier for help to deal with the opioid crisis, when the pair get together on Monday.
“One of the things I’m going to talk to her about when I have some private time is what we need from the province, and the federal government, in terms of the necessary resources,” Watson told Ottawa Today with Mark Sutcliffe on 1310 NEWS.
The lack of detox facilities, including those designed for teenagers and young adults, as well as the wait lists for treatment centres have repeatedly come up as the capital and the country wrestle with the opioid crisis.
“The province increased the number of beds at the Dave Smith Treatment Centre, and expanded detox facilities, but we still need a more holistic approach to the problem,” said Watson.
