Snow clearing costs go over budget

OTTAWA — The cost of clearing snow off the capital’s streets in 2016 has exceeded the city’s budget by nearly $14 million.
The city budgeted $63.1 million for winter operations, last calendar year. Postmedia reports, the cost for 2016 snow-clearing totalled $76.9 million.
Winter maintenance has gone over budget by $61.6 million over the past five years, according to the paper.
City council added $4.5 million to the 2017 winter maintenance budget.
