Traffic stop saves man’s life

OTTAWA — A police officer and paramedics are being credited with preventing a fatal opioid overdose during a west-end traffic stop.
A police officer pulled over a vehicle early Wednesday morning. Ottawa Police say during the stop, the officer noticed the passenger was having trouble breathing and was showing signs of an opioid overdose.
The officer called for paramedics, who gave the man a dose of naloxone to reverse the effects of the opioid. The man’s condition improved, and he was taken to hospital for further treatment.
Police say the paramedics who responded advised that the man likely would have died from the overdose had police and paramedics not intervened.
