Devontay Hackett to be sentenced Monday

OTTAWA – The man found guilty in a fatal prom night stabbing is expected to be sentenced at the Elgin Street courthouse Monday.
Devontay Hackett, 21, was found guilty of second-degree murder on Feb. 17 after two days of jury deliberations.
He had pleaded not guilty.
The Crown is asking for up to 13 years, while the defence feels 10 years would be more appropriate.
Brandon Volpi was stabbed outside Les Suites Hotel on Besserer Street on June 7, 2014, following post-prom celebrations.
Both Devontay Hackett and Brandon Volpi were 18 at the time.
Hackett, was arrested in Toronto on a Canada-wide warrant nearly a month after the stabbing.
