Emergency crews still waiting on new radios

OTTAWA — A new City of Ottawa radio system will not be ready until 2018.
According to Postmedia, The Ottawa Police Service and Ottawa Fire Service had hoped to see the new system up and running by this year’s third quarter, but the city and its contractors say they are still working out some bugs.
The system currently in place has been running since the mid-90’s, and was declared to be at the end of its life in 2015.
Ottawa has spent $10-million on new equipment for the updated radio system.
Along with emergency service workers, employees in public works, environmental services, and at OC Transpo also use the city’s radio system.
The Canadian Border Service Agency and local airport are also linked to the network.
