One driver dead, another in custody, after Arnprior crash

RENFREW, Ont. – The Special Investigations Unit has been called in to probe a crash in Arnprior that left one driver dead and another is custody.
Ontario provincial police say the Renfrew detachment was alerted to a driving complaint involving a stolen vehicle Monday at about 3:20 p.m.
OPP say the vehicle was involved in a collision in Renfrew, then another collision about 15 kilometres away in Arnprior.
According to the SIU, a vehicle was travelling northeast along Daniel Street South in Arnprior when it collided with two other vehicles at the intersection with Edey Street. The 20-year-old man who had been driving the vehicle travelling along Daniel Street was rushed to hospital.
One man was taken into custody.
A woman in one of the other vehicles was killed. The SIU has identified her as Sheila Welsh, 65, of Arnprior.
The SIU believes there were a number of witnesses to this incident and is urging any witnesses to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. If you have video, you’re asked to upload it through the SIU website.
Five investigators have been assigned to this incident.
The SIU investigates all interactions between police and civilians that result in a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
