Algonquin urges students to delay making December travel plans

OTTAWA — As Ontario’s college strike enters a fourth day, with no new talks planned, Algonquin College urges students to hold off on booking travel during the December break.
In an e-mail to students, the school says it cannot guarantee when the strike will end nor whether the length of the strike will cause exams to be rescheduled.
“If you have not already done so, we would urge you to hold off making travel and accommodation arrangements for yourself or your family members as we cannot confirm how the academic year may need to be restructured as a result of the work stoppage,” wrote Claude Brulé, senior vice president academic. “As soon as details are available we will be in touch.”
When the strike does end, Algonquin says classes will resume on the second weekday after the end of the work stoppage, to give professors time to prepare.
Meantime, two separate demonstrations are planned in Toronto over the college strike.
OPSEU, the union representing college faculty, and labour groups plan to hold a solidarity rally at York University. Students plan a separate demonstration outside the offices of the Ministry of Education before walking over to Queen’s Park asking MPPs to help get their professors back to work.
Talks between the colleges and the union broke off last week and, at this point, no new talks are planned.
