Ottawa Public Health says the more startling increase is in Gonorrhea rates.

There have been 446 cases reported this year compared to 270 cases at this point last year.

Chlamydia rates have also climbed by about eight per cent, and according to Postmedia, have climbed 28 per cent since 2012.

Health officials tell the paper there is a continuing effort to make condoms available and provide free antibiotics to those who can’t afford them.
