UPDATE: Ceiling fan sparks apartment blaze

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Fire Service is assessing damage, after flames worked their way through a few units of a Gloucester apartment building.

The blaze started in a second-floor bathroom ceiling fan just before 11am, Wednesday.

Firefighters say smoke was eventually seen coming from the roof of the four-storey building at 1993 Jasmine Cr.

They cut into the roof to better access the flames and had everything under control before noon.

No one was injured in the incident, although some residents have been displaced.

OC Transpo has provided buses to offer temporary shelter to residents.

The Salvation Army and Red Cross Emergency Disaster Teams are also on hand to assist.
