Carlington fire now being investigated as arson

OTTAWA – There are no injuries after a fire at a business in the Carlington area.

Just after 2 a.m. Friday, fire crews responded to a call from police reporting visible smoke in front of 1562 Laperriere Ave.

While on route, the Ottawa Fire Service received another call from police reporting a gas can on fire in front of the building, spreading to the structure.

A working fire was declared when crews arrived on scene. The fire was under control by 2:25 a.m. and damage is pegged at $100,000.

The building is a commercial work space that had been converted from a small, one-storey bungalow.

The arson unit has been called in to investigate.
