Barrhaven residents among many uniting during power outage

Resident in Barrhaven are among thousands across the region trying to make the best of their situation.
Hundreds gathered at Larkin Park as volunteers set up shop, cooking with generators and providing food for more than 2,000 community members.
“I put a shout out on Friday that I had the catering stuff, and I'm going to bring my pancake mix out, syrup and coffee to do breakfast for people,” said Darrell Bartraw, Owner of Bart's Catering.
Residents were overwhelmed by the support that poured in.
“I was so happy yesterday morning when I discovered this place,” said Cari Gordon. ” Everybody is so happy and thankful.”
This served as a reminder to many how much they rely on having electricity in their lives.
“It makes you realize; number one, how good it is for us to take a step back and connect; two, how crazy it is and how reliable we are with power and electricity, and how much it's apart of our life today,” says Lisa Fazzina.
Barrhaven received some good news from the ward's City Councillor Jan Harder, as she said there is a chance residents could have power restored sometime tonight.
Meanwhile, various other events are being held across the city to ensure that no one is going hungry.
We’re all set up at the The Home Depot, 1900 Baseline Rd. We are grilling for community that has lost power and food or been displaced by the storm.
