Man tased, charged with assault in Lowertown

A man has been charged with assault and robbery, after police used a taser to subdue him.

A member of the public flagged down a police officer on Cobourg Street in Lowertown, Monday evening. After entering a nearby residential building, the officer was confronted by an aggressive man.

Ottawa Police say de-escalation techniques were used, including, a conducted energy weapon — also known as a taser.

A 51-year-old man was found at the scene with serious injuries.

Another man — Jeremy O'Neil, 37, of Ottawa — has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Robbery
  • Possession of a Weapon for the purpose of Committing an Offence
  • Breach of Probation
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance

O'Neil had a court appearance, Tuesday.
