Vittoria Trattoria fire a ‘tragic loss:’ ByWard Market business manager

All businesses in the ByWard Market could feel the effects of a massive fire at the Vittoria Trattoria.
That's the fear of Tucker's Marketplace Managing Partner Tom Hughes, who called the blaze a tragic loss for the area.
He said the stretch of William Street where the fire happened is a key walkway for visitors to the ByWard Market.
“That walkway is how people — you know, it's a gateway to the market really and that's obviously going to be closed down for some time now,” said Hughes. “People [will now have to] divert and find their way in [to the market], it's definitely going to be affecting [all businesses].”
Hughes also feels for the business owners who lost property and the employees of those businesses who might now be out of a job.
The silver lining, of course, is that no lives were lost in the fire and Hughes was happy to see that flames weren't able to jump over to the fish market heritage building.
Ottawa-Vanier MPP Nathalie Des Rosier is hopeful the William Street buildings will be able to be restored properly and that the fire doesn't have too much of a negative impact on surrounding businesses.
