Residents of Stonebridge put forward proposal for Mattamy development

By OttawaMatters Staff

Stonebridge community members packed St. Joseph High School Tuesday night to get an update on the development of the Stonebridge Golf and Country Club.

The Stonebridge Community Association unveiled a 25-page report on what it would like to see in the development process.

The report highlighted the loss of green space and property value were a main concerns for residents in the area, while a loss of competitiveness in the golfing market would result from development.

The association provided solutions to these issues if Mattamy agreed to redesign the golf course to keep championship status as a Par 70 and over 6,000 yards. The report also says Mattamy would be allowed to only build phase 16 of its housing plan that includes 158 units.

On the longevity of the land, the report says if Mattamy wants to continue operating the golf course it would have to do so until 2029. If the company wants to sell the land it would agree to give two years notice and allow for the community to purchase the land for $6-million, which would only be used as a golf course or green space.

Part of the solution asks residents not to oppose Mattamy's phase 16.

The Stonebridge Community Association has launched a feedback survey, it will compile the results into a letter of intent and establish a final legal agreement.

A rezoning application isn't expected to be filed by Mattamy until early 2020.
