Loaded handgun seized after hit and run in Golden Triangle

Ottawa police officers uncovered a loaded handgun after being called to a hit and run in the city's Golden Triangle neighbourhood.

The collision happened in the area of Cartier Street and Frank Street, Thursday at 6:28 p.m. 

Officers say a parked vehicle had been hit, and the suspects drove away. The suspected vehicle was soon spotted nearby and a man and woman were arrested. A loaded handgun and casings were found. 

The Ottawa Police Guns and Gangs unit has jointly charged Shridev Cafe, 36, and Leslie Ann Macrillo, 35, both of Ottawa, with:

  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Possession of an unregistered restricted weapon
  • Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession firearm, in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition 

Macrillo is facing additional charges under the Highway Traffic Act:

  • Fail to surrender licence
  • Obstruct plate
  • Fail to remain at accident 

Both appeared in court on Friday.
