According to the 2020 university rankings published in Maclean’s latest issue, Carleton University scored highly in a number of areas that impact overall student satisfaction.

When it comes to Canadian universities, those with a lot of research activity and a wide range of programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including professional degrees, Carleton maintained its top 5 overall ranking.

With an entry high school grade average that hit a new high of 84.1 percent, Carleton students reported they were generally very pleased with their Carleton experience, leading to a top 3 student satisfaction ranking in the comprehensive category. Students also cited having excellent mental health services, experiential learning opportunities, the quality of residence living, student life support, the quality of instructors and steps taken to prevent sexual assault.

When it comes to the number of students who have won national awards and the percentage of funding put toward scholarships and bursaries for students, Carleton placed fourth.

Carleton’s rankings on research saw an improvement and the university now ranks fourth in citations and seventh in total research funding. Among all universities in Canada (49 were ranked), Carleton’s programs in computer science, engineering and mathematics were in the top ten.

“Carleton is gathering great momentum and this is reflected in the Maclean’s rankings,” says Benoit-Antoine Bacon, Carleton’s president, adding, “We continue to be among the highest-ranked comprehensive universities in the country, and to improve in both student satisfaction and research. The future is bright for Carleton.”
