Alta Vista Public School to reopen on Monday

According to the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, the Alta Vista Public School is set to reopen as of Monday, Novembre 25. The school closed last week due to excessive moisture which stemmed from a leak was coming from a pipe connected to the steam plant which heats the school.

Since closing, the broken pipe has been repaired and the steam plant is now fully operational. The humidity level and heat are consistent with regular operations. As a preventative measure, the school has also been fully cleaned and a mould test has been conducted. According to a consultant's report’s results show levels consistent with a typical indoor environment.

The areas that were sectioned off last Monday will remain closed for remaining repair work to be done. Those areas are subject to negative air pressure and ongoing air testing as part of the asbestos abatement procedures as part of school board requirements and Ontario Regulation 278/05.

The school board says staff will be ready and available to welcome students back and that concerned parents are welcome to drop their children in person. It also says that if a child shows any symptoms or reason for concern, parents will be contacted immediately.

Parents who decide to keep their child at home tomorrow, are being asked to call the school to report their child’s absence either by phone at 613-733-7124, or by email at altavistapsabsence@ocdsb.ca.
