By Chris Kurys

The first ever European-style Christmas Market opens in Ottawa on Friday.

A huge Christmas tree will be lit outside Aberdeen Pavilion to kick off the festivities around 6 p.m. and JUNO Award-winning singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk will perform at 6:30 p.m.

Lansdowne will feature live entertainment, local artisans and seasonal food and drinks in Aberdeen Square. There will be family-friendly activities during the day and fun for adults in the evening.

The Ottawa Christmas Market will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from November 29 until December 22.

Admission to the market is free.
