Ottawa received record breaking rainfall Saturday as rain and freezing rain hit the city.
1310 NEWS weather specialist John Wilson says up until midnight the area saw record rainfall.
” The numbers up to midnight are amazing, we had 43.1 mm of precipitation divided up between rain, and ice pellets and freezing rain and snow.” Wilson says. “That busts an 1895 precipitation record for the date and gets really close to the precipitation record for any day in the month of January.”
City of Ottawa crews worked to clear blocked catch basins to manage possible flooding and treated 6,000 km of roads and 2,300 km of sidewalks.
