Third fire doused in Ottawa in less than a day

Fire crews have been non-stop for the last 24 hours, tackling multiple blazes in the city.

On Wednesday morning, firefighters responded to their third blaze in the last day. Callers reported black smoke “billowing” from a two-storey, middle-unit townhome in the 1200 block of Ledbury Avenue, near the South Keys community.

Firefighters were told the “whole kitchen was on fire.”

When they arrived, teams found all the residents outside. They could see smoke and flames coming from the home and quickly brought a hose inside the building. Another crew searched the home to make sure everyone from the attached houses left.

By 10:05 a.m., the blaze was knocked down as teams continued upstairs searching for any extension. At 10:25 a.m., the incident was under control, as firefighters remained to make sure no flare-ups occurred.

One adult and two children are displaced due to the fire.

An investigator was dispatched to determine the cause and origin of the flames.
