Severe wind mixed with possible thunderstorm headed for Ottawa

By Mike Vlasveld

A special weather statement is in effect for the Ottawa area, as a storm system could bring wind gusts of up to 90 km/hr.

Environment Canada says a strong cold front is expected to sweep across the region late Friday morning and afternoon, bringing a band of scattered showers or thunderstorms.

It explains that winds gusts of up to 90 km/hr will be possible in some areas as the band moves through, however, since the showers and thunderstorms are expected to be scattered, the weather agency says strong wind gusts will only affect some areas.

Power outages are expected in those areas that see high wind gusts.
