Five more Ottawa library branches open, appointments no longer required for pick-up

Five more library branches are re-opening in Ottawa after being shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest wave of Ottawa Public Library (OPL) branches to return to service are the Alta Vista, Blackburn Hamlet, Centennial, Elmvale Acres, and Emerald Plaza branches.

These five branches join the others that now offer contactless returns. As of Monday, OPL no longer requires appointments to pick up items on hold.

Customers are able to step inside the open branches to pick up holds and borrow them using checkout machines.

To reduce the spread of COVID-19, the library says it quarantines all returned materials for 72 hours before making them available for the next person to check out.

On August 10, OPL locations at Sunnyside, Hazeldean, Manotick, Orleans, Richmond, Rideau, and Vanier will re-open to the public.
