Ottawa Police’s tactical unit responded to an incident in the city's west end involving a man wielding a knife and uttering threats.

According to police, they received a call just before 7 p.m. on Monday on Flowertree Crescent in Bridlewood – Emerald Meadows.

When police arrived, the man was threatening to harm himself and others and also threatened to burn down the house he was in.

Responding officers helped evacuate adjacent homes to ensure the safety of all residents.

A negotiator also attended to the scene.

At one point, police say the man exited the residence and approached officers, threatening them with a  knife and an ARWEN round was deployed.

At about 3:30 p.m., after about several hours of dialogue, officers approached the house and the man sprayed officers with what he claimed to be a form of acid.

No officers were injured, however.

As officers entered the residence, they were met with booby traps designed to thwart their efforts to apprehend and arrest the man.

Police located and caught the man without incident.

A search warrant was issued for the residence on Wednesday,

Evacuated residents were permitted back to their residences once it was deemed safe for the residents to do so.
