A 34-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges after a string of armed robberies in the downtown area.
Police say a man wearing a bandana over his face walked into a business on Montreal Road around 7:45 p.m., Tuesday, flashed a knife and demanded money from an employee. The employee couldn't access the cash so the suspect left.
Ten minutes later, officers say the same man walked into a business on Selkirk Street and tried the same thing. This time the employee called 911 and the suspect took off on foot.
Finally, around 11:35 p.m., the suspect tried one more time at a business on Rideau Street — flashed a knife and demanded money. Police say he got away with some cash.
No one was injured in any of the incidents.
An arrest was made around 1:30 p.m. in the Rideau Street and Chapel Street area after an officer spotted someone who matched the description of the robber.
Jeremy Young has been charged with:
- Possess a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence (three counts)
- Have a Face Disguise (three counts)
- Robbery (three counts)
- Breach of Probation (two counts)
He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
